Two ways to work

  1. Respond to the latest and loudest. Constantly be distracted by notifications. Allow interruptions. Leave things half finished. Be stressed. Say yes to everything. End every day burnt out and with a sense of how much of a mountain is still left on your many spinning plates. Make no progress long term. Look back with regret and forward with anxiety.
  2. Have a plan and stick to it. Say no to most things. Turn off notifications; turn off devices, even. Only be open for meetings and calls at certain times. Check your email on a schedule, for a limited amount of time. Be a finisher. End every day, week, month and year with a sense of what has been accomplished. Look back with gratitude and forward with vision.

On my deathbed, I know which one I’d regret missing out on.
