My Jesus I Love Thee

This is one of a handful of hymns that I’ve arranged/adapted, in this case writing a new melody and a whole new chorus, giving it all a gospel flavour. It has worked congregationally as well as sung solo and with a gospel choir.

Lyrics

My Jesus I love thee, I know thou art mine
For thee all the follies of sin I resign
My gracious redeemer, my saviour art thou
If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now

I love thee because thou hast first lovèd me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree
I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow
If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now

My gracious redeemer, my saviour you are
Forever I’ll love you, bring praise from my heart
(Repeat)
Lord with all my heart
Lord with all my heart

I’ll love thee in life, I will love thee in death
And praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath
I’ll say when the death-dew lies cold on my brow
If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now

My gracious redeemer . . .

In mansions of glory when all is made new
I’ll ever adore thee, bring worship so true
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow
If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now

My gracious redeemer . . .
